Balkan power-duo Cinder Conk will perform a concert at the New Gloucester Village Coffee House on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 7:30 pm.  Not what you’d expect from a band based currently in Maine, Cinder Conk brings the brightness and energy of Eastern Europe’s music-centered culture to New Gloucester for a night that is sure to delight and transcend.

Cinder Conk plays an array of original and Balkan music, including the vibrant, colorful sound of Roma (Gypsy) folkdance, Yiddish and Eastern European culture, known for it’s haunting allure to even unfamiliar ears. In the past year, Cinder Conk has released a CD entitled Kukeri and played nonstop, including dates at the Free Range Music Fest in Belfast, Golden Fest and Barbes in Brooklyn NY, and at the renowned WDVX Blue Plate Special in Knoxville, Tennessee.

As Slavic Soul Party’s Peter Stan said after a recent co-bill with Cinder Conk, “these guys are really good!” Other co-bills have included bands as diverse as Fishtank Ensemble, The Toughcats, and Petar Ralchev’s Live From Bulgaria band.

Though sometimes part of a larger ensemble, Cinder Conk will be playing as a duo comprised of double bass player, Xar Adelberg, who used to play with Ameranouche and Five Star Loser, and accordion player Matthew Schreiber, who just spent the summer in Serbia immersed in Serbian Romani music, language, and a whole bunch of culture, and has composed music for films produced in five different countries.

Follow and listen to Cinder Conk on Facebook at or at or email or ph.802-664-4204 for more info.
